About Bloomington Housing Authority

The mission of the Bloomington Housing Authority, also known as the BHA, is to administer public funds using available resources in a manner which will allow the Housing Authority to offer a variety of affordable housing opportunities and supportive services that foster stability and self sufficiency through creative partnerships while servicing our customers with the highest level of professionalism and respect.

We have three affordable housing communities and provide more than 1,300 Housing Choice Vouchers, also known as Section 8, that allow income eligible families to rent in the private market. Over 65 families participate in the Family Self Sufficiency Program (FSS).

In 2012, the BHA scored 100% on HUD's Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) and were deemed a High Performing Housing Authority on HUD's Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS).

In 2004, the BHA began a major transformation process to rehabilitate its affordable housing units, grounds and focus on quality of life issues, environmental updates, and create meaningful programs for children and adults. The overall appearance and functionality of the BHA properties should reflect an attractive and colorful community, rich in character as it is in diversity. Through our redevelopment efforts the BHA hopes to ultimately instill a sense of pride in every resident we serve.
